We are proud of our working relationship with the Market
Company in Durham, having undertaken a series of small
projects aimed at improving the performance of their
fine victorian grade II listed market hall. We have
brought both sensitivity and enthusiasm to the often
conflicting requirements of improving the commercial
visibility and attractiveness of the markets and the
conservation constraints of working on a listed building
on the edge of a World Heritage Site. Illustrated
schemes include the provision of new entrance canopies
and signage, a new lighting scheme for the main
entrance, a new paving scheme including public art on
the rear frontage to Back Silver Street. We also worked
with the Market Company on a proposal to take over the
running of the Market in Accrington, Lancashire Sadly
this project was ultimately unsuccessful when the
Accrington authorities decided to keep their market in
house, but we did produce a scheme to provide a cafe at
mezzanine level and improve the visual image of the
Market interior which was favourably received.
