We were selected for
this project from a short list of three architectural
practices following a competitive interview process. The
brief was to replace an existing community centre which
had become too small and inflexible with a larger
flexibly planned and designed facility. The site is
tightly surrounded by two storey housing and the design
is arranged with taller elements in the centre of the
site and lower rooms on the outside so that a low eaves
height relates to the existing development. The interior
is finished in robust materials to provide a hard
wearing environment to withstand the uses the building,
whilst being warm and welcoming.
We worked closely
with the client to respond to a developing brief
throughout the construction process. The building
contains a multipurpose, sub divisible hall, an I.T.
room, a cafe and a number of meeting rooms, and is
surrounded by landscaped gardens. |
